However, for some people, these medications do not work well. Spirometry is a lung function test used to diagnose asthma. This test checks how much and how quickly you can exhale air. Also, this test differentiates asthma from other lung diseases. Allergy tests can identify people with severe allergic asthma. In case of severe allergic asthma, you may need medications. At times, there may be a clear link between an allergen and asthma symptoms. In this case, your health care provider may recommend allergy shots. Eosinophils are a type of white blood cell. It’s number may increase when people have an allergic disease or infection. High eosinophils are common in allergic asthma, aspirin-induced asthma and late-onset asthma. It’s presence in higher levels usually indicate more severe asthma. The amount of exhaled nitric oxide is associated to the amount of inflammation in the lungs.
